Individuals who have met and continue to meet the requirements for and have been voted to Active membership. In addition, they have passed an appropriate examination that certification by completeing at least fifty (50) hours of Continuing Professional Education (“CPE”) every two years. Certified members shall have the right to participate and vote in all Membership Meetings of the Society, and to chair standing committees of the Society, including the Certification Board.

Society membership consists of individual members, not firms. In order to join the Society, prospective members must meet certain qualifications. A candidate for membership shall be an individual who:

  • Services the healthcare professions through practice management and consulting.
  • Has conducted himself/herself in a manner reasonably consistent with the Society’s Code of Ethics. Has paid the applicable fees.
  • In the care of a Certified Member, has passed an appropriate examination as determined by the Certification Board.
  • Meets such other reasonable and non-discriminatory membership requirements as the board of Directors may establish.

Code of Ethics

The Code of Ethics for the National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants includes ethical standards requiring individual desiring to be members of the Society to:

  • Conduct themselves with integrity, high moral purpose, and in the best interest of their clients.
  • Not, for personal advantage, subordinate their judgment to others or exploit client relationships.
  • Avoid or disclose fully in writing to clients all potential conflicts of interest that might arise out of financial relationships attributable to the member, any affiliate thereof, or any family member.
  • Assume only those responsibilities for which they are qualified.
  • Regard all information acquired in serving their clients as strictly confidential.

Why be certified?

A certification designation demonstrates to potential clients, vendors, and others that the holder has met certain standards of experience and knowledge.

Unlike other certifications, such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), a CHBC (Certified Healthcare Business Consultant) has demonstrated an understanding of the total healthcare business environment- both practice and financial management.

Certification programs are voluntary efforts taken within a specific industry to establish standards of performance. They are regulated by independent organizations, as contrasted with licensing, which is government-administered.

The Certification Examination, covering the body of knowledge reviewed in the Certification Course, consists exclusively of multiple-choice questions and contains scenarios with related questions, applicable both to medical and dental practices. The questions have been developed to examine the knowledge and application of principles.
